New Delhi: India began the world’s largest inoculation exercise against COVID-19 on a satisfactory note on Saturday.
According to the Union Health Ministry, 1,91,181 people were administered the COVID vaccine on Day 1. A total of 16,755 vaccinators were involved in the process across the country, and no case of post-vaccination hospitalization was reported.
There were 14 cases of post-vaccination adverse events in Maharashtra, but none of them was too serious. Those who developed side-effects are being closely monitored.
Phase 1 of the vaccination drive in India will see 3 crore frontline workers getting either of India’s two indigenous vaccines, Covaxin or Covishield.
Both are two-dose vaccines, and every beneficiary will receive the same vaccine, 28 days apart.
A little more than 1.5 crore people have been infected with the novel coronavirus since the pandemic hit the world last March. Of them, 1.52 lakh people are no more.
