Jajpur: A man was killed and two others sustained critical injuries after an ambulance dashed against a truck on National Highway No. 16 in Dharmasala area of Odisha’s Jajpur district on Sunday.
As per preliminary information, the mishap took place near Rathia on on the NH under the jurisdiction of Dharmasala police station of the district in the morning.
Sources said the 108 ambulance was proceeding to Keonjhar from Cuttack after leaving a patient at a hospital. On the way, the driver lost control over the wheels and the ambulance rammed into the truck parked along the road from the rear.
While ambulance attendant Hemanta Acharya reportedly died on the spot, driver of the vehicle Gobardhan Jena and pharmacist Girija Sethi were critically injured in the accident.
Locals informed fire services department and police about the mishap. The injured were subsequently rescued and rushed the injured to a nearby hospital for treatment. While Acharya was declared dead by doctors, the two injured were later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
