Nayagarh: One person died and five others were critically injured after a van carrying picnickers dashed against a trailer truck parked along NH-57 in Daspalla area of Odisha’s Nayagarh district early on Thursday.
As per preliminary information, the mishap took place near Takera Square under the jurisdiction of Dasapalla police station in the early hours as the van rammed into the static truck from the rear.
Around 16 persons were returning after a picnic from Daringibadi in Kandhamal district to Athagarh in Cuttack when the mishap took place.
The mishap was suspected to have taken place due to poor visibility caused by dense fog in the area. The truck was reportedly parked on a sharp curve on the highway.
On being informed, fire services personnel reached the spot and cut open the mangled van with gas-cutters. While one person died on the spot, the injured were rushed rushed to Nayagarh District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for treatment.
