Kendrapada: After three years, 10-year-old girl Suhani has finally returned to her native place in Kendrapada district.
A rescue team, which was formed under the direction of Kendrapada Collector Amrit Ruturaj, had gone to Noida in Uttar Pradesh to rescue Suhani.
The team along with the rescued girl reached Kendrapada on Saturday. The collector welcomed Suhani by giving her a school bag, doll, chocolates and a bouquet of flowers.
According to reports, Suhani hails from Deulatara village under Rajkanika block. She had lost her mother at an early age. Her father, Santosh Kumar Jena, had deserted her after marrying another woman in 2018.
Suhani then started staying with her uncle and aunt, who took her to Delhi. Instead of taking care of the girl, they started torturing her.
Suhani’s teacher in Delhi got to know about her situation and informed the local Child Line officials.
Delhi Child Line investigated into the matter and rescued Suhani from her uncle’s house in December, 2019. They handed over her to the Child Welfare Committee.
Under the direction of Child Welfare Committee at Goutam Budhha Nagar in Uttar Pradesh, Suhani was sent to ‘Sai Krupa Shelter Home’.
In January, 2020, the Kendrapada collector was informed about the matter. Though he contacted the shelter home to bring Suhani back to Odisha, due to COVID guidelines, it could not be possible.
Then New Delhi Odia Association Director, Gobardhan Dhal had also tried to send beck Suhani to Odisha. With his help the necessary procedures were completed.
The team had gone to New Delhi on March 14 and brought Suhani back home to Odisha.
