Puri: As many as 100 passengers on a ferry boat were stranded for about 20 minutes in Chilika Lake on Wednesday after it developed some mechanical glitch.
According to available information, the ferry boat suddenly stopped after heading not more than 200 metres from Satapada ghat. It was on the way to Janhikuda when the incident reportedly took place.
However, another ferry was sent to the spot immediately and all the passengers were rescued safely. The ill-fated boat was then pulled ashore.
Although the driver of the ferry claimed that the boat got stranded due to a technical issue, some passengers alleged that the either the driver was inexperienced or the boat was overloaded as it was also carrying two buses and more than fifteen motorcycles.
