11 Candidates To Contest In Odisha’s Brajrajnagar Bypoll; Know Contestants Who Withdrew

Bhubaneswar: With 3 Independent candidates withdrawing their nominations on Tuesday, total 11 aspirants will contest in the byelection to Brajrajnagar Assembly constituency in Jharsuguda district.

The office of sub-collector, Jharsuguda has issued the final list of contestants in the byelection. As per the list, three Independents Tapan Swain, Parvati Behera and Manoj Pradhan have withdrawn their nominations and would not contest in the election.

As per the notification of State Election Commission, May 17 was the last date for withdrawal of nominations. The byelection will be held on May 31 and the counting of votes has been scheduled on June 3.

While ruling BJD has fielded Alka Mohanty, the wife of deceased MLA from the seat Kishore Kumar Mohanty, BJP has announced the name of former Brajrajnagar MLA Radharani Panda as its candidate and Congress nominee is former Assembly Speaker Kishore Chandra Patel.

The three major parties contesting in the bypoll have already announced their lists of 40 star campaigners.

The byelection has been necessitated due to death of Brajarajnagar MLA of BJD Kishore Kumar Mohanty on December 30 last year.
