Dhenkanal: An Odia girl has entered her name in the India Book of Records by reciting all elements of the periodic table in a record time.
The 11-year-old girl Sarmistha Supraj Bhuyan is a student of Class VII of Nodal Upper Primary School at Sarang under Parjang block in the district. A brilliant student from the beginning, she has shown extraordinary skill in remembering scientific terminologies and principles.
At a special programme, Sarmistha recited all 118 elements of the periodic table in 18.55 second beating the earlier record of 25.20 second to enter the India Book of Records. The earlier record was held by 14-year-old Jia Kumar of Noida in Uttar Pradesh.
Considering her interest in science, her father Shatrughna Bhuyan and mother Suprabha Bhuyan have been encouraging her to participate in various competitions. Besides clearing scholarship examination, Sarmishta has also qualified in National Rural Talent Scholarship (NRTS) examination of the Board of Secondary Education(BSE), Odisha.
Sarmishta has credited her achievement to support and encouragement of her teachers and parents. On her ambition, she said said she wanted to spread scientific temperament among the students from young age by becoming an administrator in future.
