Berhampur: At least 12 tourists from West Bengal were injured as a mini-bus carrying them overturned reportedly due to brake failure in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Friday.
According to sources, the tourists from Nadia district of Bengal had hired the mini-bus in Berhampur and left for sight-seeing in the morning. They first visited Khunteswari temple and then proceeded towards Daringibadi.
While the bus was coming down the hill from the temple, its brake failed. In a sharp turn, the driver lost control over the steering and the bus overturned on the road.
On being informed, a team from Sorada police station and Fire services personnel rushed to the spot and rescued the passengers from inside the overturned bus. They rushed all 13 injured persons including the driver to the community health centre (CHC) at Sorada.
As seven of them had sustained critical injuries, they were shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital at Berhampur. The police have registered a case and started investigation.
