120 Recovered Policemen To Donate Plasma For COVID-19 Patients Treatment In Odisha’s Ganjam

Berhampur: After their recovery from COVID-19, 120 policemen of Ganjam district have volunteered to donate plasma, said Ganjam SP Brijesh Ray on Tuesday.

The SP said that a total of 150 policemen of the district had contracted the virus. While 120 have recovered, the remaining 30 are undergoing treatment at the COVID hospital, he added.

This assumes significance as the Ganjam administration on Tuesday launched convalescent plasma therapy to treat COVID-19 patients.

On Monday, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had announced to start plasma therapy procedure at the Tata COVID Hospital, Sitalapalli, in Ganjam district from Tuesday. The service is already available at SUM and KIMS hospitals in Bhubaneswar and Ashwini Hospital in Cuttack.

While expressing gratitude to the CM for the slew of measures, including Rs 25 crore, to help the district to fight COVID-19, the denizens of Ganjam have demanded setting up of a Plasma Bank at MCKG Medical College and Hospital here. The district has over 3,800 recovered patients.

Meanwhile, the COVID-19 tally in Ganjam district touched 5,991 on Tuesday with an overnight addition of 225 new cases.
