134-cr plan for construction labourers ready: Naveen

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government is taking sincere steps to bring construction labourers to the mainstream and provide social security to their families, said chief minister Naveen Patnaik, inaugurating the state-level function, organised on the occasion of International Workers’ Day and Construction Workers’ Service Week at Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) in Bhubaneswar here on Monday.

He informed that more than 18 lakh construction workers have been registered and said the government has prepared an action plan worth Rs 134 crore to check labour migration.

Besides laying the foundation stone of low-cost temporary shelters for construction labourers, the CM through videoconferencing inaugurated five help desks at Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Telengana and Andhra Pradesh for the security of migrant labourers from Odisha.

“The temporary shelters for the construction workers will be opened at 21 places including Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Angul, Berhampur, Jajpur, Jharsuguda, Paradip and Sambalpur,” informed Odisha Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board chairman Subash Singh.
