Paralakhemundi: A court in Odisha’s Gajapati district on Thursday sentenced 14 persons to rigorous imprisonment for life for the murder of a woman committed 15 years ago.
Additional District and Sessions judge Pradeep Kumar Samal also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 each on all the convicts.
Those convicted and awarded life term are Sakalamukhi Ballabha (84), Guralu Budu (56), Nagabansa Nagarjuna (28), Padala Prasad (47), Jilipi Krishna (42), Nagabansa Ramaswami (36), Liari Suresh (42), Nagabansa Ramakrushna (34), Sakalamukhi Madhava (26), Nagabansa Simadri (62), Harikrishna Nagabansa (50), Nagabansa Padman (41), Nagabansa Radhakanta (43), Guralu Gopala (62), Nagabansa Bhaskar and Jangam Harinath.
As per case records, the 14 persons had attacked and molested a woman in her house at Ghasi Sahi in Paralakhemundi on March 12, 2009 over past enmity.
Police had rescued the woman and admitted her to hospital where she died while undergoing treatment. Her family members had lodged a complaint with police, based on which police registered a case and arrested 16 persons involved in the incident.
During trial of the case, two of them had died and the rest 14 were convicted of murder after 15 years.
