Bhubaneswar: Intense heat wave gripped almost all parts of Odisha on Saturday with the western Odisha town of Titlagarh recording the highest temperature of the season at 45.8 degree Celsius.
Apart from Titlagarh, mercury soared to 40 degrees and above at Angul (42.7), Jharsuguda (43.6), Sambalpur (44.6), Sundargarh (42), Hirakud (44.1), Talcher (43.2), Bhawanipatna (42.8), Balangir (45.5), Phulabani (41.8), Malkangiri (42 and Sonepur (44.2) in western Odisha. Besides, the coastal areas of Chandbali (40.5), Cuttack (40) and Bhubaneswar (40.2) also recorded over 40 degree Celsius.
Talking to the media, duty officer of the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, Sudarshan Mishra said the heat wave condition will prevail for three days till May 21 after which the temperature will gradually decrease due to the Nor’wester.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded severe heat wave warning for some parts of Sonepur, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Jharsuguda and Balangir districts on May 19 and 20 and advised people not to expose themselves to the scorching heat, he added.
