Mumbai: A 17-year-old youth from Latur district was detained by Mumbai Crime Branch on Wednesday in connection with a threat message on X that a nefarious incident would take place at Wankhede stadium during the India vs New Zealand ICC Cricket World Cup semi-final.
“An unidentified person posted a threat message to Mumbai Police on X (formerly Twitter) that a nefarious incident would be executed during the India vs New Zealand at Wankhede Stadium today. Strict vigilance is being done in the area around the stadium and nearby areas. The person had tagged Mumbai Police on his post and shown gun, hand grenades and bullets in a photo,” Mumbai Police had earlier said.
While security measures around Wankhede Stadium was heightened following the threat message, the reason as to why he posted the threat message is yet to be ascertained, it added.
