Bhubaneswar: Two persons allegedly involved in drug peddling were arrested and over 90 kgs of cannabis valued at around Rs 9 lakhs seized from them by the police in Bhubaneswar on Thursday.
Acting on a tip-off, the personnel of the special crime unit carried out a raid at Unit-6 area of the state capital and intercepted the accused persons while they were proceeding in a car loaded with cannabis, sources said.
While the two were apprehended, the police team seized ganja weighing over 90 kg from the vehicle. The value of the contraband ganja was estimated to be around Rs 90 lakh. One of the accused hails from Kandhamal, while the other is a native of Nayagarh district.
Following sustained interrogation, it was found that these traffickers were acquiring huge quantities of cannabis from Kandhamal and selling it in the capital city and nearby areas.
Apart from the ganja, the police seized a car, two mobile phones and several other documents from the accused. Further investigation is in progress.
