Dehradun: After being stranded at a height of 6,015 metres on way to the Chaukhamba III peak in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district for two days, two foreign women mountaineers were rescued on Sunday morning.

According to the District Disaster Management Centre, the mountaineers—Michelle Theresa Dvorak from the USA and Fav Jane Manners from the United Kingdom— were part of a foreign mountaineering expedition by the India Mountaineering Foundation, the India Today reported

Two Indian Air Force helicopters had initiated a search operation on Friday. They were joined by mountaineering trained State Disaster Response Force personnel on Saturday.

The state emergency operation centre in Dehradun claimed that the duo was stuck after their logistical and technical equipment fell down.

“After battling two days of bad weather, the IAF’s Cheetah helicopter airlifted the climbers from 17,400 feet, showcasing remarkable coordination in extreme conditions,” a statement from the Air Force read.
