2 Govt Officials Get 4-Yr RI In Separate Vigilance Cases In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Two government officials in Odisha were convicted and sentenced to four years rigorous imprisonment each in separate corruption cases by Vigilance in Cuttack and Angul districts.

While a Vigilance court in Cuttack convicted Usman Khan, former Law Moharir-cum-Tax Collector (Retired) of Cuttack Municipal Corporation, Srikanta Mohapatra of City Level Technical Cell (CLTC) Professional at DRDA-cum-DUDA, Angul, was convicted by a court in Angul.

Usman Khan was charged by Odisha Vigilance under Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(c)(d) of the PC Act 1988/409 IPC for misappropriating government money collected as fines from defaulting persons as municipal dues.

He was convicted by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Cuttack, and sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for four years and pay a fine. Usman Khan was sent to jail custody to serve his sentence. Odisha Vigilance will now move to stop his pension following his conviction.

In another case, Srikanta Mohapatra (terminated from service) was charged-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance under Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(d)/7 of the PC Act, 1988, for demanding and taking a bribe from a complainant to process data in a computer for passing a bill under the PMAY Scheme.

He was convicted by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Angul, and sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for four years and pay a fine. Mohapatra was sent to jail custody to serve his sentence.
