2 Killed, 15 Injured As Pick-Up Van Overturns In Odisha’s Ganjam

Berhampur: At least two persons were killed and 15 others injured, some of them critically, when a pickup van overturned in Hinjili area of Odisha’s Ganjam district on Saturday.

As per preliminary information, the mishap took placce at Sompur square under Hinjili police station in the wee hours when the van carrying ‘Dandua’ artistes turned turtle.

While two persons reportedly died on the spot, others sustained injuries, sources said.

The injured persons were immediately rushed to Hinjili hospital. Seven of them were later shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur as their condition deteriorated. Conditions of at least three of them are stated to be critical as they have sustained severe head injuries.

The ‘Danduas’ (artistes performing Danda folk dance) were returning from Dahimundali village to Kheti Berhampur in two pickup vans after completing a show. However, one of the vehicles lost balance and overturned near Sompur after hitting a road divider.

Locals immediately informed the police about the accident. The rescue operation was undertaken and the injured were rushed to the medical immediately.
