Jagatsinghpur: At least two persons were killed and three others critically injured in an explosion at a firecracker manufacturing unit at a village in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district on Tuesday.
Sources said the mishap took place at Madhuri Bazaar in Gopalpur village under the jurisdiction of Balikuda police station in the district this afternoon.
The explosion took place after a fire erupted at the unit where firecrackers were being made. The explosion ripped apart the asbestos roof structure of the unit
While two persons died on the spot, three others who sustained critical burns were immediately rushed to the district headquarters hospital at Jagatsinghpur. They were later shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as their condition deteriorated.
On being informed, Fire Services personnel rushed to the spot, doused the flames and rescued the victims.
The deceased were identified as Dilip Mohanty of Gopalpur and Bulu Das of Ichhapur village.
