Bhubaneswar: Two persons, including a woman, died while three others were injured in a series accident on NH16 in Khallikot area of Odisha’s Ganjam district on Sunday night.
According to sources, a truck, carrying edible oil from Palasa in Andhra Pradesh to Kolkata in West Bengal, skidded off the highway and overturned after hitting a motorcycle and then a car at Haridamula under Khallikot police limits at around 8 pm.
The deceased have been identified as truck driver Narasingh Rao (45) and Bishnupriya Patra, who was riding pillion. Bishnupriya’s brother CH Ramchandra Prusti, her son Ashutosh and truck helper Jayram sustained grievous injuries in the accident.
The injured were immediately rushed to Khallikot Community Health Centre (CHC) and later shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur as their condition deteriorated, the sources added.
Police said that stretch has been witnessing accidents since vehicles overspeed at night and fail to negotiate a blind turn on the Bada Ghati road.
