Rayagada: Two minor girls died of drowning while taking a bath in a river in Odisha’s Rayagada district on Friday.
As per reports, the two girls, identified as 10-year-old Anu Abdul and 11-year-old Hemabati Suna of Sana Chandili village under Chandili police limits in the district, had gone to take bath in Nagabali River on their return from school in the afternoon.
As they did not return home for a long time, her families along with villagers went to the river in search of them. Suspecting that they might have drowned, they also started searching in the river and informed the police.
The police along with Fire Brigade went to the spot and joined the villagers in search operation. The Fire personnel found the girls in unconscious condition from the river and rushed them to the local hospital. But both of them were declared dead in the hospital.
The villagers suspected that the girls might have slipped into deep water while bathing in the river and got drowned. The police have registered a case of unnatural death and started investigation.
