Rayagada: Two persons were killed after being hit by a train engine, which was on a trial run between Rayagada and Singhpur railway stations in Odisha, late on Wednesday.
The deceased have been identified as Amisirao Pulaka and Shivana Kadraka, natives of Debadalguda village in Rayagada district.
According to ECoR sources, the accident took place when the duo was sitting on the third railway track being laid between Rayagada and Singapore road station. They died on the spot.
Soon after the mishap, hundreds of local villagers blocked the railway tracks demanding compensation for the bereaved families.
It is pertinent to mention here that railway safety commissioner Brijesh Kumar Mishra had visited the newly-built railway track to take stock of the work progress the previous day.
