2 New Judges Of Orissa High Court Sworn In

Cuttack: Justice Gourishankar Satapathy and Justice Chittaranjan Dash were sworn in as the judges of Orissa High Court by Chief Justice S Muralidhar on the court premises on Saturday.

The Supreme Court Collegium had approved the proposal for elevation of Judicial Officers Gourishankar Satapathy and Chitta Ranjan Dash as judges of the Orissa High Court last month.

On Friday, President Draupadi Murmu had appointed Gourishankar Satapathy and Chittaranjan Dash as the new judges of the High Court, according to a notification of the Central government. The Centre had notified the appointment of 20 judicial officers and six advocates as judges and additional judges to six high courts.

“In exercise of the power conferred by Clause (l) of Article 217 and Clause (1) of Article 224 of the Constitution of India, the President, after consultation with the Chief Justice of India, is pleased to appoint judges/additional judges to high courts as per the list attached,” the notification stated.

With the swearing-in of Justice Satapathy and Justice Dash, total number of judges in Orissa High Court has gone up to 24.
