Baripada: Batapalasa village under Karanjia block in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj witnessed a kangaroo court on Wednesday over the alleged kidnapping of a minor girl.
According to sources, Mamata Mahakud and Afzal Ansari took the 13-year-girl child of their neighbour Anam Dehuri of Batapalasa village to Rath Yatra on Tuesday. The family searched for her frantically when she did not return home. Afzal and Mamata tried to abscond clandestinely on a motorcycle this morning but were nabbed by the villagers, who then tied them to a pole near the village water tank and thrashed them mercilessly.
Police subsequently rescued them both.
According to police sources, the missing girl has been traced at Rairangpur area and is being brought to Karanjia. The circumstances under which she went missing is being investigated.
