Bhadrak: At least two fishing trawlers were reportedly found stranded in the turbulent sea near Dhamra in Odisha’s Bhadrak district on Friday after Cyclone Dana made landfall.
As per information received from Dhamra, fishermen of Baitarani Balichara Maschyajibi Sanga brought the matter to the notice of the authorities.
Sources said the fishing trawlers reportedly embarked on a return journey to West Bengal after getting permission from their owners though the sea condition was still turbulent. Shortly after venturing out, they were found stranded in mid-sea as the weather condition was rough.
There was no clear information as to how many fishermen were there in both the trawlers.
According to Assistant Fisheries Officer, Dhamra, Sandeep Behera, one of the trawlers was believed to have moved into the sea as its anchor might have slipped or due to some technical glitches in the engine. The other trawler might have been stuck while trying to rescue the other one, he said.
Both the trawlers are believed to be from West Bengal but it was not yet possible to contact them. Efforts are underway by the marine police to rescue the stranded trawlers.
