Nuapada: Two wildlife criminals were arrested by Forest department officials and recovered a live pangolin from their possession in Odisha’s Nuapada district on Saturday.
Acting on a tip-off regarding the dealing of live pangolin in Nangalbad village under Sinapali range in the district, forest officials conducted a raid and seized a live pangolin along with pangolin scales weighing around 2 Kg, sources said.
The forest officials arrested two wildlife dealers in this connection while other two members of the group managed to fled from the spot.
It may be noted here that the Indian Pangolin is a solitary, shy, slow moving, nocturnal mammal. It is a Schedule-I protected animal under Wild Life Protection Act, 1972, which provides absolute protection-offences under these are prescribed for the highest penalties.
