Sambalpur: As many as 20 doctors and several medical staff of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) at Burla in the district have tested positive for COVID-19.
According to sources, most of the medical and medical staff, who have tested COVID positive, are either asymptomatic or have mild symptoms. All of them have been confined to isolation.
Since VIMSAR is the biggest hospital in entire western Odisha, it caters to medical needs of the people of the region. With 20 doctors getting affected by COVID, the services in the hospital have been partially affected.
“We have not faced any problem in providing services to the patients so far though around 20 doctors are in isolation and are unable to come to the hospital. However, if more doctors get infected by the virus, it may pose problems for the institute,” Times of India quoted VINSAR director Lalit Meher as saying.
But sources said the hospital is now able to cater only emergency services and all staff have been told to take precautionary measures. The patients are also told to strictly follow COVID protocols.
