Srinagar: Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama prevented a 2019-like attack in the region after they stopped a car carrying 20 kg explosives on Wednesday night.
The police opened fire on a Hyundai car when it did not stop at a checkpoint rather accelerated its speed.
The car carried a fake registration number, the officers said.
“The security forces opened fire. The driver managed to escape, leaving behind the car laden with IED,” Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar told NDTV
“We had intelligence inputs about a possible attack. We were looking for a vehicle with IED since yesterday,” he added.
Later, the vehicle was destroyed by the bomb squad after police evacuated peope from the nearby houses.
The valley has witnessed an increase in terror activities in the last two months. During the period, about 30 security forces personnel including officers have been martyred while 38 terrorists have also been killed.
