24 Students Fall Ill After Consuming Hostel Food In Odisha’s Keonjhar

Keonjhar: Around 20 students, aged 10-12 years, of government-run Anwesha Girls Hostel in Odisha’s Keonjhar were admitted to district headquarters hospital after they fell ill while in school.

“They left for school after having meal on Friday but soon complained of nausea, fever, body ache and stomach ache,” Manoj Nayaj, employee of the hostel, told the media on Saturday.

“We had rice and dalma in the morning. During the assembly, we started feeling unwell and were rushed to the hospital,” Kshitismita Bhoi, a Class V student, said.

District Welfare Officer Prabir Deo said a total 24 students were hospitalised and six among them were discharged after primary treatment. “Some students also complained of diarrhoea last night. They are now under observation. Their condition is stable. The CDMO has assured to send a medical team to the hostel,” he added.

Altogether 468 students are staying in the hostel near Dharnidhar University and 185 among them are studying in Greenfield School at Palasapanga.
