Bhubaneswar: Three persons were arrested in connection with the alleged attack attempt on the sub-inspector (SI) of Mahila police station Subhashree Nayak in Odisha capital while she was returning home from night duty.
According to sources, the Commissionerate Police have also seized an Innova car apart from arresting the trio for allegedly chasing and threatening the woman cop late on Tuesday. “The three are professional drivers and have confessed to having driven the vehicle to the area,” DCP Bhubaneswar Prateek Singh told the media on Thursday.
Nayak had noticed that a vehicle with whose driver she had an argument over giving way on the road followed her to Reserve Police Office. Subsequently, she lodged a complaint with Saheed Nagar police. “The accused were in the area on the intervening night of January 1 and January 2 and had consumed alcohol. When the SI overtook them, the accused followed her to the gate and left after losing her trail. They were identified through CCTV footage and other intelligence sources and simultaneously police teams were sent to Puri, Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur,” he said.
Further investigation into the case is in progress and their houses will be searched, the DCP said, adding that it was a freak incident and they are not habitual offenders.
