New Delhi: Three days after Jammu and Kashmir assembly election was announced, a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) inspector was killed in a clash with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district on Monday.

A PTI report, quoting officials, said that terrorists attacked a joint party of CRPF and Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu & Kashmir Police. The militants opened fire on them at around 3.30 pm in the remote Dudu area of Basantgarh.

Kuldeep Singh, an inspector of CRPF’s 187th battalion, was hit by a bullet. While he was being shifted to a hospital, Kuldeep succumbed to his injuries.

As the joint patrolling party retaliated forcefully, the terrorists fled the scene.

Reinforcements have been rushed to the spot and a search operation launched to track down and neutralise the terrorists, PTI added.

Jammu and Kashmir will have its first assembly election as Union territory over three phases — September 18, 25 and October 1.

After delimitation, there are a total of 90 assembly constituencies in Jammu & Kashmir, of which are for general categories, 9 reserved for scheduled tribes and 7 reserved for scheduled castes.
