Keonjhar/Koraput: Three persons were killed and four others critically injuted in separate mishaps during chariot pulling on Lord Jagannath’s Bahuda Yatra in Odisha on Wednesday.
While two persons died in Keonjhar after the chariot came in contact with live electricity wire, one person was killed in Koraput in a similar mishap, sources said.
In Keonjhar, the mishap took place at Kendua under the jurisdiction of Baria police station when the chariot came in contact with an 11 kv electric wire, causing injuries to some people.
The injured were taken to hospital in Keonjhar where two of them were declared dead. The two were identified as Jugal Kishore Barik (45) and Barun Giri (50).
In a similar incident in Koraput, a 26-year-old man died of electrocution during Bahuda Yatra at Kolab Nagar.
According to reports, while the pulling of the chariot was underway, its flag (dhwaja) came in contact with a live overhead electric wire.
The deceased was identified as Babula Nayak of Kolab Nagar who was in charge of the braking system of the chariot received severe shock following the incident.
Another youth also received an electric shock and was critically injured in the incident.
