Berhampur: Five persons were killed in a head-collision between a scooter and a motorcycle near Kesari Patna village under Bhanjanagar block in Odisha’s Ganjam district late on Thursday.
Another person was critically injured in the mishap.
The deceased have been identified as Srikanta Gouda of Asurabandha, Manoj Dakua of Dulada, and Mahendra Nayak, Jayant Batatya and Rajani Gouda, all staffers of the electricity department at Soroda.
According to sources, the collision took place around 11.30 pm. Four among them died on the spot under the impact of the collision, while another succumbed at to his injuries on the way to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital. The injured, Purna Guada of Dulada, is currently undergoing treatment at hospital and his condition is stated to be critical.
Except for Rajani, who was 43 years old, all others were in the age group of 30-35. The accident is likely to have happened due to low visibility because of dense fog, police said.
