Bhubaneswar: The Vigilance courts in Odisha convicted three former government employees charged with taking bribes, on Monday.
Jugal Kishore Parida, who retired as head clerk at DGM, Electrical, EHT Division, Berhampur, has been sentenced to one year of rigorous imprisonment by Special Judge, Vigilance, Berhampur, under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (PC) Act, 1988. A fine of Rs 5,000 has also been slapped on him. He also has to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period 2 years and pay a fine of Rs.10,000 for the offence under Section 13(1)(d) of PC Act, 1988. Both the sentences are to run concurrently.
Parida had demanded and accepted Rs.8,000 to process the EPF paper of the complainant’s father who had retired as lineman from OSEB in 2004.
Similarly, Special Judge, Vigilance, Sundargarh has sentence Drupada Sahasia, former head clerk (retired) of Kutra block to 2 years of rigorous imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 3000. He also has to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 1 year and pay a fine of Rs 2,000 under different sections of PC Act. Both the sentences are to run concurrently.
Sahasia had accepted bribe to process the file for grant of leave for the period of 7 months in 2010.
Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority to stop the pension of Parida and Sahasia, a release said on Tuesday.
Saroj Kumar Das, former junior manager, Boinda section under SDO, Enzen, Boinda, in Angul district has been sentenced to 3 years of rigorous imprisonment by Special Judge, Vigilance, Angul. He also has to pay a fine of 5,000.
He had accepted bribe to correct and regularise the arrear electric bill, it added.
