Bhubaneswar: Three hardcore Maoists of Chhattisgarh surrendered before Odisha DGP Abhay on Monday.
The DGP identified the surrendered Maoists as Lakma Madvi alias Lakhan of Isurnag village under Bijapur police limits, Ganga Makam alias Nitesh alias Sendra of Kamalpad village under Kistaram police limits and Suka Sodi alias Nabin of Dulad under Chintakupa police station.
Members of Kodanga-Mahanadi-Sanjukta Area Committee operating under the KKBN Division of Odisha State Committee of CPI (Maoist), the trio was given the task to expand the base in Kandhamal district.
“They had been specially deployed to resurrect Mahanadi Area Committee and activate northern Kandhamal and adjoining axis, which was moribund since 2018 in the aftermath of neutralization of Badal alias Shankar Majhi (DCM) and surrender of Kunu Dehury,” informed the senior cop.
They decided to give up the path of violence surrender in the light of Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s appeal to them to join the mainstream society and be a part of the developmental initiatives and the Surrender and Rehabilitation Policy, the DGP said, quoting the Maoists.
They also revealed that they were disillusioned by the senior rung leaders of the party, who used to coerce and harass lower-rung cadres, both mentally and physically.
“Surrender of the three ultras will give a serious blow to the Maoist plan and designs in northern Kandhamal and adjoining axis and their plan to revive the north Mahanadi corridor up to Saranda of Jharkhand state will fall flat,” said the DGP.
“I appeal all the Maoists leave violence and lead a new peaceful life after returning to mainstream,” he added.
