Sambalpur: At least three persons were injured in a clash between PG students and house surgeons at the prestigious Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Science and Research (VIMSAR) at Burla in Odisha’s Sambalpur district.
As per information, a violent clash took place between two groups of PG students and house surgeons when an event was underway at VIMSAR Burla on Sunday. Three house surgeons reportedly sustained injuries in the clash.
The injured were identified as former president of the UG Student association Dr Prabhat Kumar Jena, former general secretary of the association Dr N Biswaranjan and Arpit Shubam Das, the former auditor.
Sources said the annual function of the UG Students Association was underway when a group of PG students allegedly attacked some house surgeons. Though the reason violence is yet to be ascertained, past enmity is suspected to have triggered the clash.
The injured persons and other house surgeons lodged a complaint with the police alleging that the attack was pre-planned. They threated to stay away from duty and stage a strike seeking justice.
VIMSAR Director Bhabagrahi Rath along with SDPO Amit Mohanty were also present. Efforts were on to resolve the issue in presence of senior police officials.
