Hyderabad: A Director General (DG) was among three senior police officers to be suspended by the Andhra Pradesh government for their alleged involvement in the arrest and harassment of an actor-model without conducting proper investigation, officials said Sunday.
Former Intelligence Chief P Sitharama Anjaneyulu (DG rank), former Vijayawada Police Commissioner Kranti Rana Tata (Inspector General rank) and former Deputy Commissioner of Police Vishal Gunni (Superintendent rank) were the ones to face punitive action following an inquiry.
Mumbai-based Kadambari Jethwani last month lodged a complaint with NTR Police Commissioner S V Rajasekhar Babu, accusing the trio of conspiring with K V R Vidyasagar, a YSR Congress Party leader and film producer, who had filed a forgery and extortion case against her in February.
Jethwani’s charge was that the police officers colluded with Vidyasagar to harass her and her parents, getting them arrested and flown from Mumbai to Vijayawada without prior notice.
In a case which attracted a lot of public attention, Jethwani claimed that police subjected her and her elderly parents to humiliation and unlawful detention. Her family spent over 40 days in judicial custody.
Vidyasagar allegedly fabricated land documents to frame Jethwani and her family, with police not allow them to apply for bail for several days.
