Bhawanipatna: Theee persons were arrested by excise sleuths in Odisha’s Kalahandi district on Thursday while allegedly transporting more than 300 kg ganja in a truck to Uttar Pradesh.
Acting on an information, a team of excise officials intensified patrolling on NH 26 near Sagada village under the jurisdiction of Sadar police station in the district and intercepted the truck bearing Uttar Pradesh registration number.
Following thorough search, ganja weighing over 305 kg was seized from the vehice and three persons were arrested. The ganja was being transported from Koraput district to UP, sources said, adding that the truck was also seized.
The arrested persons were identified as Mohammad Ayub (28), Umesh (27) and Sangeet (36), all residents of UP.
The approximate value of the ganja and the truck was estimated to be around Rs 60.5 lakh. Further investigation is in progress, the sources added.
