Jajpur: Three workers died of asphyxiation and several others were injured as a soil mound collapsed on them at Rahansa village under Kapila panchayat of Binjharpur block of Odisha’s Jajpur on Thursday.
According to sources, the labourers worked for a construction company and were laying pipelines when the soil caved in and they were buried under a heap of soil.
The labourers were rescued by locals and rushed to Binjharpur community health centre. Later, they were shifted to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) in Jajpur where three workers were declared dead.
Those with minor injuries were discharged from the hospital after primary treatment.
On being informed, police reached the spot and sent the bodies for postmortem.
The identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained but they were reportedly from Bihar and Tamil Nadu, sources said.
