Bhubaneswar: Plans are afoot for an alternative road between the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, which will not only help to tide over peak hour heavy traffic but also save travel time.
The proposed six-lane road will connect Barang with Palasuni and Garage Square with Kapila Prasad before ending at Jatni. The project of about 38 kilometres will be executed at an estimated cost of Rs 1,211 crore and will have culverts on aqueducts and flyovers at Palasuni on NH-16 and at Kapila Prasad on the Sundarpada-Jatni road, the TOI reported.
Besides providing direct connectivity between Barang in Cuttack and Jatni in Khurda, this road will also decongest the busy Jaydev Vihar-Nandankanan Road and the Rasulgarh-Ravi Talkies Road.
At present, commuters either take Khurda-Chandaka Road or Nandankanan-Chandaka Road or National Highway-16. The routes of 40 to 45 kilometres witness heavy traffic during peak hours.
