Bhubaneswar: Accidents in Odisha, involving passenger buses, have claimed four lives in the last 24 hours.
Driver of a bus died while at least 10 passengers were grievously injured after the vehicle rammed into hyva truck on NH-16 near Kodei Chhak in Odisha’s Jajpur district on Wednesday. The accident took place when the bus, carrying 60 passengers, was en route to Bhubaneswar from Baripada.
On being informed, Barchana police along Fire Service personnel reached the spot and shifted the injured to a hospital in Cuttack, sources said.
On Tuesday night, three persons died and eight others were injured as a speeding bus overturned after the driver lost control over the vehicle at a sharp turn near Kalisahi of Phiringia in Kandhamal district. A total of 50 passengers were onboard the bus, which was heading from Muniguda in Rayagada district to Phulbani in Kandhamal district, at the time of the accident.
While two passengers died on the spot, another succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at the Community Health Centre at Phiringia. Kandhamal Collector Ashish Iswar Patil said every step is being taken for the treatment of the injured.
