Bhubaneswar: Four members of a notorious criminal group, known as ‘black jacket gang’ of looters, were arrested by the Commissionerate Police in Bhubaneswar on Monday.
Investigating into a series of gold chain snatching cases by a particular gang wearing black jacket and using different motor cycles, police nabbed the four members gang putting an end to the crime done by them.
The gang was operating especially in Saheed Nagar, Nayapalli, Kharvel Nagar, Capital, Mancheswar, Badagad and Pahal police station areas, Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh said.
The arrested gang members were identified as Rocket @Santosh Nayak (28), Manas @ Rasmi Ranjan Naik (31), Gulu @ Bulu Naik (28), and Tiki @ Sarbeswar Gochayat (28).
30 gold chains weighing about 400 grams, three bikes, two black colour jackets and documents regarding loan against the snatched gold chains were seized from the accused.
All the accused persons hail from Nayagarh distrcts and were staying at different slum areas of Bhubaneswar. They are having a particular and unique mode of operation and notoriously famous as “Black Jacket” gang and were active fir last six months, the DCP said.
They wear full black jackets and pant and use motorcycles to commit crime and tamper the number plates by scratching the digits and also applying adhesive tapes on number plate.
They target gold chains of women commuters on road and swiftly disappear from the spot after snatching. After crime, they put the gold chains in mortgage in different financing agencies and shared the amount among them.
