Rayagada: Four private buses were burnt down in a huge fire inside Bissam Cuttack bus stand in Odisha’s Rayagada district on Saturday.

However, no casualties or injuries were reported as there were no passengers on the bus.

According to sources, the buses, owned by one transporter Kiran Kumar Sahu of Rayagada, were parked next to each other in the bus stand. The locals saw two buses standing in the middle on fire and alerted the police.

The police along with Fire personnel rushed to the bus stand and started dousing the fire. By the time they reached, two other buses had also caught fire. Two Fire buses were engaged to bring the blaze under control. While two buses were completely gutted, two others were damaged to a large extent.

The four buses run from Bissam Cuttack to Rayagada, Gunupur, Muniguda and other places every day but on Saturday, those were stationed at the bus stand.

The actual cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained but locals suspected that it could be due started by the extreme heat. However, they did not rule out the possibility of sabotage.

A case has been registered and a police investigation is underway.
