Srinagar: Four soldiers of Indian Army were killed and six others injured after terrorists attacked a military convoy in the remote Machedi area of Jammu & Kashmir’s Kathua district on Monday afternoon.
The attack on the Army vehicles took place around 3.30 pm when they were on a routine patrol on the Machedi-Kindli-Malhar road, about 150 km from Kathua, NDTV reported quoting Army officials.
The injured soldiers have been transported to a military hospital.
Two or three terrorists first lobbed a grenade and then opened fire from automatic weapons. The Army personnel retaliated, but the terrorists fled into the nearby forest.
The Army has not yet issued a statement on the latest attack by militants.
A massive search operation has been launched, and an encounter was underway for hours between Army personnel and terrorists.
Terrorist attacks have escalated in the last few weeks in Jammu & Kashmir.
On June 11, 6 security personnel were injured when terrorists attacked a joint check post at Chattargalla, while a police personnel was injured in a gunfight with terrorists at Kota top in the Gandoh area on June 12.
On June 26, Indian security forces gunned down 3 terrorists during another encounter in a forest area in Doda district.
