Cuttack: On the first day of the CMC’s slum eviction drive on Tuesday, as many as 42 temporary houses and structures were demolished in Khannagar of Odisha’s Cuttack city.
The Cuttack Municipality Corporation (CMC) launched eviction drive for construction of 6-lane ring road to Netaji Bus Terminus. With the construction of the ring road, the bus terminus will be directly connected to the National Highway 16 which will facilitate the passengers.
As a huge slum comes on the way where the road will be constructed, the CMC took up the eviction with the help of the police. Earlier, the CMC had notified about the eviction and announced that the evicted families would be relocated in a different part of the city.
Deputy Commissioner of CMC Ajay Kumar Mohanty said around 42 families, who were evicted in today’s drive, were accommodated in Braj Biharipur Primary School for seven days initially. They will be resettled near Dhableswargada in the city. Besides, each family will be given assistance of Rs 50,000 by the district administration.
