Bhubaneswar: The voters’ turnout remained high for the fourth phase polling of the panchayat elections completed on Tuesday.
The final polling percentage in the fourth phase polling, released by the State Election Commission (SEC) on Wednesday, put the tournout at 79% which was highest of all phases so far.
In all four phases, the polling rate in the rural elections has remained more than 70%. As per the SEC, while it was 79% in 4th phase, there was 71% polling both in the third and second phases. In the first phase, the state witnessed 70% polling.
Among all 30 districts, Subarnapur recorded the highest polling of 86.51% in the fourth phase, followed by Bargarh with 84.87% and Nabarangpur 83.3%.
Interestingly, Ganjam district, which has the home constituency of chief minister Naveen Patnaik, registered the lowest voter turnout at 65.2% this time.
