Sundargarh: At least five people were killed and two others critically injured when a Hyva truck dashed against an auto-rickshaw in Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Sunday.
As per preliminary reports, the mishap took place at Telendihi under the jurisdiction of Sundargarh Sadar police station in the afternoon.
The accident took place when some residents of Bagichapada were travelling in the auto-rickshaw for a picnic and the Hyva truck ran over the three-wheeler and dragged it into a paddy field.
The auto-rickshaw was completely mangled under the impact. JCB machines were engaged to separate the two vehicles after the mishap.
While five persons reportedly died on the spot, the injured were rescued by locals and rushed to hospital for treatment. The condition of the injured was stated to be critical.
A team of police personnel rushed to the site and launched an investigation into the incident. Further details are awaited.
