Keonjhar, A truck rammed into a wedding procession, killing five persons, at Sathighar Sahi near National Highway-20 in Odisha’s Keonjhar district in the early hours of Wednesday. Nine persons sustained critical injuries in the mishap.
Among the deceased were the groom’s nephew while two others hailed from Sathighar Sahi.
According to sources, it was the wedding procession of Hemanta Patra, the son of Hadibandhu Patra from Manpur village in the Harichandanpur block, and the tragedy stuck when the baraatis, dancing to the DJ music, were a few metres from the house of the bride, daughter of Kartik Patra, a resident of Sathighar Sahi.
While five people died on the spot, nine others were seriously injured. Fire services personnel rushed to the spot and admitted the injured to the district headquarters hospital. Three among them were shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital as their condition deteriorated.
The mishap sparked tension and grief in the area.
