Puri: Five members of a family were saved from drowning in sea due to timely action by life guards deployed on the beach in Odisha’s Puri town on Saturday.
As per reports, the five persons, identified as Rekha Mahali, Devi Mahali, Sumitra Mahali, Sudeep Mahali and Prasanna Mahali had come to Puri for darshan of Lord Jagannath. They belong to North Pragana district of West Bengal.
After visiting Jagannath temple and having darshan of the deities in the morning, they came to the sea beach. All of them went inside the sea in Sector 9 area of the beach to take bath.
While bathing, they were pulled by strong current into deep water. As they did not know swimming, they started drowning and cried for help. Fortunately, the life guards could see them drowning and dived into the water.
The life guards saved all of them from drowning and brought them ashore. None of them was injured in the incident. All the members of the family returned to their hotel after the first-aid.
