Berhampur: A local court has sentenced five accused persons to life imprisonment for murder of four brothers in Odisha’s Ganjam district.
As per the case, a group of miscreants had mercilessly beaten four brothers to death for allegedly passing foul comments at Pitala square under Hinjili police station in the district on March 22, 2022. The brothers were Raja Swain, Shambhu Swain, Pandav Swain and Chandan Swain. They were sons of Mangulu Swain of Narendrapur village.
The incident had sent a shockwave across the state at the time. The police had arrested five persons following investigation in this connection. They are Amiya Kumar Swain, Bahan Pati, Santosh Swain, Milan Swain and Chandrasen Sethi and forwarded them to court.
The court of the Additional District Judge (ADJ), Aska heard the case after the police filed the chargesheet. On verifying the evidence produced by the police and hearing the statements of 26 witnesses and two eyewitnesses, the court on Monday convicted all five persons in the case and sentenced them to life imprisonment.
