Bhubaneswar: More than a month after the triple train accident in Odisha’s Balasore district, over 50 bodies of the Balasore triple train crash victims are still lying unclaimed in separate containers at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar.
The premier health facility had received 81 bodies and identity of 29 was ascertained through DNA testing. Among them, 22 bodies were cremated by Sunday, official sources said.
The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) cremated mortal remains of two victims – Dinesh Yadav (31) from Jharkhand and Suresh Ray (23) from Bihar – at the Satya Nagar crematorium here after family members expressed reluctance to take the bodies considering the long journey.
“Currently there are 52 bodies of the train accident victims at AIIMS Bhubaneswar. We are expecting the DNA sampling test results for the rest in two-three days,” an official said.
The June 2 train crash, which took place near Bahanaga Bazar railway station in Balasore district and involved Chennai-bound Coromandel Express from Shalimar, Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express and a stationary goods train, has so far claimed 293 lives with six passengers succumbing to injuries while undergoing treatment in past few days.
